Research on eye movements during reading shows that approximately 10–15% of the time, the eyes move backwards in the text. These “regressions” are not all the same, however, in terms of distance or subsequent reading behaviors. This talk considers processes that are proposed to occur during the rereading that typically follows long-distance regressions. It is argued that previous assumptions about these processes might be incorrect.
